I'm leaving on a jet plane
Greetings, internet wanderer! And yes, above you see me trying to hug a wave.
This is Squidgirl in Lyon, the blog that I've created to document my time in Lyon, France. In just over a week I will be flying away from lovely Virginia and making my way into the city center, where I will study history and modern French literature at Université Lumière Lyon II, the humanities center of the public university. I'll also be getting to know people (both other international students and the Lyonnais as well).
If you don't know this already, the squid is very shy and has a hard time making friends.
Here's the squid story -- my kendo training partner and friend Jean (http://runswithsword.blogspot.com/) was kind enough to crochet me a lovely little white squid after Master Campbell, on the karate side, told me I was a squid because my arms and legs flailed independently of my body. Although the compliment was definitely a dubious one I rather took to the cephalopod appellation and have referred to myself as the "squidgirl" in various situations since then.
I am of course planning on bringing my little yarn squid to Lyon, and pictures of it posed in various attitudes will be forthcoming.
I'll try to post serious pictures along with descriptions of the things I get up to. You're all welcome to comment, heckle, shout, protest, and generally send love. Requests for postcards and letters will also be heeded.
Anyway, I'm testing the image posting options on Blogger -- perhaps I'll get an account on Flickr as well. So for now I'll bid you à très bientôt!

We missed you at workout last night. You must, of course, come next week so that we can all bid you farewell even to the point of buying you a farewell dinner. Bring your little yarn squid and its companion, SnailPony, so that we can wish you all well.
